BÜNDNISGRÜNE policy for Saxony

It depends on the climate

Of course, striving for climate protection is not the only thing we fight for. But without protection for the climate, everything else is on a slippery slope. If we fail in this, we bequeath to our children a world full of conflicts and catastrophes. We are the first generation to experience climate change. We are also the last that can do something about it. With our climate protection law, we intend to put our regional planning on a solid footing for the future. This is why we target realistic and – first and foremost – feasible objectives, which will provide time and possibilities to change policy. Thinking ahead was always GREEN. For climate protection, it has become critical than ever.

Nature conservation – Preserving diversity

We want to put an end to the dramatic decline in diversity experienced by our animal and plant life. We are therefore committed to a regional biotope network that will include a web of high-quality areas for diversity and interconnect the existing protected areas. We want to stop the increasing soil sealing, land use, erosion, the destruction and fragmentation of habitats caused by building projects and mining, as well as the contamination of the air, earth and water. Nature protection stations are intended to help with environmental education, maintaining nature reserves and the protection of biodiversity.

Energy for Saxony – safe and clean

The goal is clear and brooks no alternative: safe and clean supply through 100 percent renewable energies. But those who set forth on this path also have to want to reach their destination: in a consistent, economically cost-effective manner and as quickly as possible. We GRÜNE want this. The gradual phasing out of lignite (brown coal) is part of this process. We want to support people in this structural change. This is a major but surmountable challenge. It opens up for Saxony new opportunities in a world where safe and clean energy for billions of people is a basis for development and resolving conflict.

Mobile down to the last corner – on foot and by bicycle, bus and rail

We want mobility for everybody: reliable, barrier-free, coordinated and affordable. With our regional integral “Taktfahrplan Sachsentakt 21” (Saxony Interval Timetable 21), we will organise a transport system that is both passenger und environmentally friendly. It is designed so that everybody in the city and the countryside arrives at their destinations quickly. For bicycle and pedestrian traffic, we strive for an attractive and safer infrastructure, a high proportion of which will provide our cities and municipalities with a better quality of life. We stand for a clever and forward-looking transport planning, which optimally coordinates the bicycle, bus, rail and car.

Producing responsibly instead of regardless of cost

We encourage sustainable consumption and ecological production, clear consumer information, appreciation for products, and the responsible treatment of food. Healthy food in day-care centres and schools is very important to us. We want to reduce harmful chemicals in the environment and products and to use resources in a way that they can regenerate. Saxony should stop being a place that invites waste. In other words: import less hazardous wastes, avoid waste, and facilitate re-use and recycling. Ecological and fair procurement must be the standard for public tenders.

Agriculture – Time for a new attitude

The industrialisation of agriculture has resulted in an intensive exploitation of the soil, nature and countryside at the expense of the ecological balance. We want to reverse the trend towards centralisation and large-scale enterprises in agriculture. We are committed to strengthening small-scale farming, environmentally compatible soil management and the significant expansion of organic farming, which neither poisons the environment nor genetically manipulates. This will raise the quality of life, the attractiveness and development opportunities of rural areas. We are committed to ending intensive animal farming.

Bright minds – Good education from the very beginning, lifelong

We stand for good education – irrespective of age, origin, income or disability. Whether in the nursery, school, training or study, we are committed to educational equality through inclusion and individual advancement. For this purpose, we need sufficient and well paid personnel. We want to create the legal basis for further education as a right. The universities and colleges in Saxony must be solidly funded, democratically organised and independent. Good education requires rooms, in which learning together is possible for everybody, with equipment fit for the challenges of the future.

Financial fairness in urban and rural areas

Demographic and structural change has confronted Saxony with major challenges. It is necessary for solutions to be found – both for growing cities and shrinking rural communities. Many rural areas and municipalities have their backs to the wall. We are committed to a fair distribution of financial resources in the municipal financial equalisation scheme. To do this, the financial compensation has to be changed to enable cities and municipalities to meet their mandatory tasks while also having the scope for voluntary tasks. Only by this means will Saxony become a place to live and work with future prospects for its citizens.

A functioning Free State for everybody – good and transparent

It is only with a competent and properly staffed administration that we will be able to cope with our official tasks in the long-term. An attractive and well equipped Civil Service is not a cost factor but a key pillar in a functioning Free State in touch with its citizens.

Political decision-making processes and administrative actions must be made comprehensibly transparent at an early stage. We want the state to become more open to its citizens. A transparency law and an individual identification obligation for the police would promote this.

Protecting fundamental rights – Strengthening democracy

We want Saxony to return to being a Free State worthy of the name. We are committed to observe the fundamental rights of everybody living here and put a stop to the hunger for data of the authorities. We want to strengthen the right of assembly and the right to freedom of expression. The security laws in Saxony must be delivered from their excessive intervention into civil liberties. We want to provide a more binding legal framework for equality between men and women. The democratic processes must be improved at all levels and the citizens more strongly involved in important decisions.

Strengthening the family – Supporting diversity

Good social interaction requires responsibility for each other. We want to promote multigenerational togetherness and achieve equal legal status for all family structures. We want to strengthen families from the very beginning − in this regard, midwives are indispensable. Counselling and support services for families living in difficult situations must be reliably funded. It is our goal to enable families to be able to take advantage of flexible or shortened working hours and of time out from work without suffering any disadvantages. Public employers should be the role model for a better reconcilability of family and career.

Upholding human dignity – Opening up perspectives

Humanity commits us! We want to provide people who seek protection in Saxony with safety and a life in dignity. We support the demand for legal entry possibilities for refugees from Syria and Iraq. Successful integration requires openness on all sides, legal security, fast access to language learning, education, work, art and culture as well as participation. We want to ensure both this and the financial support of municipalities. For us, this means continuing to decisively combat everyday racism in Saxony as well as resolutely countering racially motivated violence.
